शिव मन्त्रम् – SHIVA MANTRAM
ॐ नमः शिवाय – पञ्चाक्षर मन्त्र
1. Om Namah Shivāya.
‘Om’ is the Sat-Chid-Ānanda Para-Brahman. ‘Namah Shivāya’ means ‘Prostration to Lord Shivā’. This is a very powerful Mantra which will bestow on the chanter the Highest Bliss of Existence. This is the five-lettered formula or the Panchākshara-Mantra of Lord Shivā.
ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि, तन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात् ll
रुद्र गायत्री मन्त्र
2. Om Tatpurushāya vidmahe Mahādevaya dhimahi,
Tanno Rudrah prachodayāt.
We comprehend (realize) that Celebrated Supreme Being (Purusha), and meditate upon that Great God, Mahadeva; may that Rudra impel us to do so. This is the Rudra Gāyatri Mantra.
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनं,
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ll
महा मृत्युञ्जय मन्त्र
3. Om Tryambakam yajāmahe sugandhim pushtivardhanam,
Urvārukamiva bandhanānmrityormukshiya māmritāt.
I bow down to that three-eyed Lord Shivā (Trayambakam), who is full of sweet fragrance, who nourishes the human beings. May He free me from the bondage of Samsāra, just as a ripe cucumber fruit is separated from the creeper. May I be fixed in Immortality! This is the Mahā-Mrityunjaya Mantra.
