SHIVA PANCHAKSHARA STOTRA

!! ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः – ॐ नमः शिवाय – भवानी शंकराय नमः !!

नमः शिवाय श्रीशिवपञ्चाक्षरस्तोत्रम्
Na Ma Śi Vā Ya – Śrī Śivapañcākṣarastōtram


(Each of five letters – syllables is considered as Siva. His Greatness is praised!)

Sanskrit Text of Stotra Composed by Śrī Ādi Shankarāchārya

 

नागेन्द्रहाराय   त्रिलोचनाय​
 भस्माङ्गरागाय    हेश्वराय  
नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बराय
तस्मै ‘न’ काराय नमः शिवाय ॥१॥

Nāgendra Hārāya Trilochanāya
Bhasmānga Rāgāya Maheshvarāya;
Nityāya Suddhāya Digambarāya
Tasmai ‘Na’ kārāya Namah Śhivāya.

  1. Salutations to the ashes-clad, three-eyed Lord, embodied as the first letter ‘Na’ ‘Nakaraye’, who is pure, Digambar who wears directions themselves as dress, eternal (who is forever) and whose garland is the lord of serpents.

 

मन्दाकिनी-सलिल-चन्दन-चर्चिताय
नन्दीश्वर – प्रमथनाथ – महेश्वराय
मन्दारपुष्प – बहुपुष्प – सुपूजिताय
तस्मै ‘म’ काराय नमः शिवाय ॥२॥

Mandākini Salila Chandana Charchitāya,
Nandeesvara Pramatha Nātha Maheshvarāya;
Mandāra Pushpa Bahu Pushpa Supoojitāya,
Tasmai ‘Ma’ kārāya Namah Śhivāya.

  1. I bow to Him, embodied as ‘Ma’ ‘Makare’, who is adorned with innumerable divine flowers as Mandāra and the like, who is the Sovereign King of the Pramatha Ganās and whose body is anointed with the holy waters of celestial Gangā.


शिवाय
गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द-सूर्याय
दक्षा ऽ ध्वर               नाशकाय
श्रीनीलकण्ठाय        वृषध्वजाय
तस्मै शि’ काराय नमः शिवाय ॥३॥

Śhivāya Gauri Vadanābjavrinda, Sooryāya Dakshādhvara Nāshakāya;
Śrī Neelakanthāya Vrisha Dhvajāya, Tasmai ‘Śhi’ kārāya Namah Śhivāya.

  1. To the blue-necked Lord (Neelkantha), embodied as the letter ‘Śi’ ‘Śikare’, the destroyer of Daksha’s sacrifice and the resplendent Sun of Gauri’s lotus-face, whose banner bears the emblem of a bull, may our salutations be.

 

वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भव​ – गौतमार्य
मुनीन्द्र – देवार्चित – शेखराय
चन्द्रार्क – वैश्वानर – लोचनाय
तस्मै व’ काराय नमः शिवाय ॥४॥

Vasishtha Kumbhodbhava Gautamārya, Muneendra Devārchita Sekharāya;
Chandrārka Vaishvānara Lochanāya, Tasmai ‘Va’ kārāya Namah Śhivāya.

  1. I prostrate before the God of gods, embodied as ‘Va’ ‘Vakare’, whose eyes are sun, moon and the fire and whom the gods and the great sages like Vasishtha, Agastya and Gautama, ever pray and worship.

 

(यक्ष) यज्ञस्वरूपाय जटाधराय
पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय
दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय
तस्मै य’ काराय नमः शिवाय॥५॥

Yaksha swaroopāya jatā dharāya, Pināka hastāya sanātanāya;
Divyāya devāya Digambarāya, Tasmai ‘Ya’ kārāya Namah Śhivāya.

  1. Prostrations to that Ancient Digambar God, embodied as the letter ‘Ya’ ‘Yakare’ the Yaksha incarnate whose hairs are long & matted and who holds Pinaka in His hand.

पञ्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः ठेच्छिवसंन्निधौ शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवे सह मोदते ॥६॥

Pañcākṣaramidham punyam, Yaha patek-Śhiva-sannidhou;
Śhivaloka-mavāpnoti, Śhivena saha modate.

Whoever repeats this prayer, composed with the five holy letters before Lord Siva, attains that Supreme abode of His and enjoys there with Him in eternal bliss.
